Update Your Curb Appeal For Spring

What’s one of the first things a potential buyer notices about your home? It’s Curb Appeal! With sunnier skies, cooler weather, and a lot more time on our hands, this is the perfect time to give the exterior of our home some much needed TLC after a long harsh winter. We’ve made a list of some easy to do projects for you to make your home shine!

Refinish The Front Door

Your front door is the entryway to your home and it affects the homes curb appeal more than you’d think. An effective and inexpensive project is to refinish the door to give it a new life. Simply pick a stain that will match the exterior walls for an overall shine. We’ve also seen many homeowners use a bright pop of colour on their front door to make the homes curb appeal really stand out! Colours like red, blue and green can make a home’s exterior look very unique and eye-catching

Gardening and Landscaping

First things first, clean up any remaining leaves or fallen debris leftover from the fall by raking the entire front lawn and bagging the waste into recyclable yard bags. Next, spruce up the garden or create one by building a stone frame and filling it with soil. Stone or rock borders make a simple garden look like a million bucks, but this project won’t break the bank. All you’ll need is a garden liner or edging, large pegs, a bag of concrete, and your choice of decorative stones or rock. We found a DIY video for your reference! Check out how to build or line your front garden here.

Once the concrete is set and your new stone border is ready, plant some perennials to ensure your home always has some fresh flowers growing. A well maintained garden and lawn really improves up the overall curb appeal of the home.

Window Update

Clean windows will improve the home's curb appeal substantially and should be done 1-2 times a year. If you have a power washer the job can be done in no time but if not there are incredible products on the market that will help you to get those windows sparkling with ease! If you notice the paint is chipping off the frames or colour if looking a little dull, go the extra mile and refinish the window frames as well with a fresh coat of paint. Bright white window frames look good on almost every home - brand new windows on a budget!

Replace the Fixtures

Replacing hardware such as the front door handle, window handles, doorbell, door knocker etc will really increase the curb appeal of your home and it won’t take longer than an hour or two to do! Update the mailbox to something that matches for an added aesthetic. If you’re already happy with your exterior fixtures - give them a good polish and add a porch light to really highlight them. Even something as simple as replacing hardware can go a long way in helping to improve the look of your home. Don’t forget your garage’s handles too if it faces the front of the home.

Add Exterior Accessories

Adding some character to the front lawn will go a long way for the curb appeal of your home. From small garden gnomes, potting plants or wind chimes to larger accent pieces like benches, columns, or even a water feature will create a well-loved and inviting home visitors and passersby will surely notice.

Garden lights create a warm oasis all day and night long - line the driveway or walkway with exterior lights to not only make it more visible but add a certain luxurious element. Solar lights are ideal because you can set and forget, with no worry of changing batteries or messing around with bulbs.

A well-maintained exterior will speak to potential buyers before even entering the home during a showing. Ensure it’s kept tidy and free of yard/pet waste, kid's toys, damages, or other noticeable imperfections. Don’t forget to pay attention to the side of your home if it is visible to the street also!
